Kenneth, Kenny, and Kevin Darcy were out with Andrew Daniels, their friend. They weren’t just out playing, they were helping an elderly neighbor move into a new home but they ended up seeing something they couldn’t ignore. It was a starving dog tied to the back of a house, and that dog needed some help. She was in bad shape and would have done anything to help herself but she was attached with bungee cords. The boys untied her, wrapped her in a jacket and took her home. In the end, they would name her Sparkle and they wanted to do their part to make sure she was safe.
The boys started right away to feed the pup and to give her water, They did what they could to keep her comfortable. When they had Sparkle out on a walk one day, they happened to see a member of the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue and they told them the story. It wasn’t just a matter of a chance encounter, the rescuers thought that Sparkle also had mange and was probably neglected for a long time.
When the dog’s story was posted on the rescue’s facebook page, they said about how much of a hero those four young men were that day.
“You could tell they really love this dog,” said Theresa Sumpter, the organization’s founder, speaking to WDIV.
“They were protective of the dog and wanted to make sure the dog was going to a good place.”
The people from the rescue took Sparkle to the vet and learned that she did not have mange, but she looked bad because she was so thin. That was good news, not only because the dog wasn’t as sick as they thought but because she would be able to be adopted soon. It wasn’t long after that a foster mom was located by Pet Tales Rescue.
The boys that saved Sparkles can be happy with what they did that day. They saved her and then saved 2 other dogs from living on the streets. This is one of those stories that restores your faith in humanity. You can learn more in the video below.
